Respiratory rate should remain between twelve and twenty breaths per minute. Changes may reflect pain, anxiety, or complications from pain relief medications. In high-risk cases or when epidural anaesthesia is used, oxygen saturation monitoring provides valuable additional information about maternal oxygenation.
